Abergavenny Steam Rally      Sunday 24th and Monday 25th of May 2026

ABOUT THE ABERGAVENNY STEAM, VETERAN & VINTAGE RALLY

This is a Unique Event in the Steam Rally Calendar in the UK as it takes place in a Park in the middle of a Market Town.

The town itself is a busy tourist destination with numerous town centre cafes, Pubs, restaurants and independent shops as well as a Castle and ancient buildings, such as St Mary’s Priory and the Gunter House.

The Rally is also quite unique, because every penny earned is donated to worthy causes throughout the town, and with every task being carried out by volunteers, on a good year, that can equate to over £50,000, all invested back into our community.

The Rally originally started in the 70’s, however the event in its present form began after the Rotary Club of Abergavenny took over the running of the Rally, from Ivor Trotman in 2000.

Ivor felt it was time to hand over to an organisation which had a bigger group of volunteers to call on. So, the Rotary Club stepped into the breach, and since then it’s almost unrecognisable, going from strength to strength every year.

It now attracts around 10,000 people over the two days of the show, with exhibitors coming from the far edges of the UK.  Exhibits are very varied in numbers and variety, from around 15 giants of the steam era, up to 200 or more Classic cars and everything in between, include numerous tractors, motorcycles, bicycles, Commercial and military classics and organs, all great reminders of a bygone era. There is also an abundance of food stalls, bars, shops, vehicle jumble, a busy schedule of entertainment including headline acts in our arena, a fair, not to mention the craft and models sections, and much more besides.

Since 2020 the Steam Rally is now a registered Charity CIO (Abergavenny Rotary Club Charity Incorporated Organisation). This has helped to channel even more of our revenue into the community.

It is now one of the biggest dispensers of charitable money in Gwent.
